Size guide

The table shows the inside measurements of the shoe without the insole. Measure your feet and add about 1 cm to find your size.

A little less if your foot is narrow and a little more if it is wide. When in doubt, go up: better too much room than too little. The idea is to leave a good finger’s worth of air in front of the toes. And do not worry if it is your first time, because it will not be your last.

The room to leave in front is not the same for every model: with the sambalias we suggest 1 cm at most and with the sambarinas half of that, as they are worn without socks and want a closer fit.

Step by step

How to measure your feet

Measure both feet every time, because they are almost never the same. Write down the measurement of the bigger one.

Contorno de un pie con la línea del largo (L), del talón al dedo más largo, y la del ancho (W), del juanete a la base del dedo pequeño
L is the length, from the heel to the longest toe. W is the width, from the bunion to the base of the little toe and perpendicular to the axis of the foot.
  1. 01

    Place

A sheet of paper against the wall. Put your foot on it, heel against the wall, and draw round your toes and the sides with the pencil held upright. The finer the line, the better.

  2. 02

    Draw

A line from the centre of the heel (the edge of the paper) to the longest point of your outline, and measure it. That is your length (L).

  3. 03

    Mark

A line from the bunion to the base of the little toe and measure it: that is your width (W). It must be perpendicular to the central axis of the foot, because that is how we measure the width of our last.

  4. 04

    Take the insole into account

Our bambas can be worn without the insole. The insole is 4-5 mm thick: coconut fibre in the Original and hemp fibre in Bamba, Bambita, Sambalia and Sambarina, plus the hemp or organic cotton inner material.

As they are natural fibres, they give under the weight of your body. If you are going to use it, add those millimetres to the extra room; and if the instep or the width feels tight, taking it out or swapping it gives you a subtly different fit.

  5. 05

    Adults

Our feet need room in front. Wearing small or narrow shoes ends up taking its toll on the whole body, because the foot gets used to those conditions. Even if you think you know your size, take a moment to measure.

If it is your first time in minimal footwear, 6-12 mm extra may be enough. And if you leave little room, bear the insole in mind: with it in, the fit is tighter than you would think.

    • Bambas, ankle boots and boots: between 10 and 15 mm, as they are worn with socks.
    • Sambalias: 10 mm at most, as they are worn without socks and want a closer fit.
    • Sambarinas: 5 mm at most. If you are between two sizes, choose the smaller one.

    Check and choose

Go back to the table and find your size. Our feet are unique and so are our preferences, so the right size also depends on how you like to wear your Sambas.
