What they are made of

Biomaterials

We do not use materials of animal origin.

No leather, and no plastic dressed up as leather

Traditional leather production is one of the most polluting industries, closely linked to deforestation and toxic chemical processes. And many of the so-called vegan alternatives on the market are still oil-based synthetics: they do not biodegrade and their environmental impact is high.

Our goal is to design footwear that respects people and the planet, while moving away from fossil fuel dependency.

That is why we work with natural, innovative biomaterials that are recyclable or biodegradable, and why we recover traditional fibres that combine performance, comfort and low environmental impact.

On the outside

The materials

What the body of the shoe is made of.

  • Oleatex®

Vegan leather made from olive by-products, what is left of the olive once the oil is out. Up to 90% bio-content and six times less carbon.

  • Cork

Naturally waterproof, lightweight, renewable and biodegradable. Harvested without harming the tree, and cork oak forests absorb CO₂ and help prevent desertification.

  • Organic cotton (GOTS)

Grown without toxic chemicals or GM seeds, and with responsible water use. Soft, breathable and safe in direct contact with the skin.

  • Linen

A natural fibre, antibacterial and thermoregulating. Cool in summer and comfortable in winter, with a long textile tradition behind it and a low environmental impact.

  • Hemp

Highly resistant, antibacterial and odour-neutralising. It needs little water, asks for no chemicals and improves soil health.

On the inside

The insoles

Flat, thin and removable. These are their fibres.

  • Hemp fibre

Breathable, durable and comfortable. It is the base of our insoles in the Bambas and the Sambalias.

  • Coconut fibre

Naturally antibacterial, deodorising and absorbent. It comes from coconut husks and adapts to the foot on its own.

Underneath

The soles

Four millimetres between your foot and the ground.

  • Bio-vegetal TPR

An innovative material made from vegetable oils. Flexible, lightweight and designed to go along with the natural movement of walking.

At a glance

Natural inside and out

The illustration that sums up the materials we work with and what makes a pair of Sambas kind to your feet. These are all the options: each model has its own, listed on its page.

An illustrated Sambas plate titled “Nuestra materia prima” (our raw material): a cork shoe surrounded by plants, with notes around it (anatomical shape, flat with no drop, room for the toes, removable premium insole, flexible, lightweight and made in Spain) and twelve material icons: coconut, prickly pear, pineapple, Tencel, corn, cork, hemp, bamboo, palm, linen, rubber and cotton. It closes with “naturales por dentro y por fuera”, natural inside and out.

Every product page says what that model is made of. And if the shape interests you more than the material, that is explained in foot friendly.
